Types of Skills

To be a great warrior in the Grand Olympiad games, you will need to understand about almost all the kinds of skills, how they work, and speacially what influences in their damage or success chance. This way, you will be able to make fastest choices, create better strategies and use the correct clothing sets against each class, or in the right situation.

If you press Alt + K in your game, you will see that your character's skills are divided in two windows only, showing Active and Passive skills. That's the general division, but the Active skills have a lot more of different types, and these other divisions aren't well informed inside the game, which's why I will writte to you all the correct divisions, this way you'll understand the game better.

Passive Skills

As a way to manage better the unique features from each class, the game creators inserted the passive skills, it's through them that each class develops a better gameplay with certain weapons and clothes, like a Duelist with dual swords and heavy armors, or a Ghost Sentinel with a bow and light clothes.

You don't need to do anything to use it after you have learned them, because they automatically increase your status once you meet the right requirements, that's why they are called passive skills. For example, the Heavy Armor Mastery requires a heavy armor equipped to work, so if you are wearing a light armor set, it won't work. The same apllies to the weapons, if your class have the passive skill called Bow Mastery, that increases your physical attack with a bow, then you will probably get a good damage with arrows.

There are a few situations that allows you to get some extra passive skills through your equipment or clan, check the list bellow:

  • Wear a full clothing set: Almost every set of clothes from Lineage 2 gives you some extra bonuses when you wear all of his parts, there are sets that get completed with 3, 4 or 5 pieces.  This information is in the description of the chest part, and if you enchant all parts up to +6 you get even more bonuses.
 
  • Get a Special Ability (SA) in your weapon: There are many possible special abilities for weapons in the Lineage 2 world, but all weapons get only 3 options (except by the dual swords), and these 3 options are determinated by the game.
 
  • Epic Bosses Jewels: In the Interlude, there are 8 jewels that can only be obtained defeating their respective raid bosses, which are some of the strongest creatures of the continent, and their jewels gives many unique status, while the normal ones increases only a little bit of MP.
 
  • Clan Skills: These are unique passive skills that only your clan leader can get, and it applies to the other members, depending on their clan status. Lately, almost all servers have removed the status restriction for the clan skills, but you won’t need to worry about this because they don’t work inside the olympiad.

Active Skills

As told before, the active skills are a lot, and they can be splitted in two more big groups, which are physical and magical skills, where the first ones are dependant mostly of the character's physical abilities, like attack speed and physical attack, and the second ones of the character's magical abilities, like the casting speed and magical attack.

In general, the physical skills consumes a little less MP, but some of them might also consume MP and HP at the same time, or even only HP, while the magical skills usually consumes only MP. Also, the physical skills re-use is most affected by the attack speed, and the magical skills re-use is affected by the casting speed, but there are some stuff that can reduce the re-use of both of them. Some skills are affected by both, but we can't use these inside the olympiad.

Physical Active Skills

  • Physical Damage Skills: These are all the fighter skills that has damage power (except dagger skills), and their damage is calculated from your P. Atk. and your target’s P. Def., so you can increase your damage in these skills by increasing your physical attack. They might be critical attacks, but the critical damage of them will always be twice the normal damage, no matter if you have buffs to increase your critical damage or not.
  • Blow Skills: The blow skills are all the ones that requires a knife to be used, so basically they are the skills from the 3 dagger classes, and their damage is calculated from your Critical Damage Power, your target’s P. Def and the direction that your blow have inflicted the opponent. You can increase this damage by getting buffs and equipments that increases critical damage, and their success chance also depends on the blow’s direction. The biggest chance of sucess and damage is on your opponent’s back.
  • Stuns and Shock Skills: These skills are responsible for letting you defenseless for a short time, the duration depends a lot from the server, but it’s usually something between 3 to 8 seconds, and sometimes their duration might double, so be carefull with this. Some of them also gives damage besides of the stunning chance, and the success chance depends on the target’s stun/shock resistance plus the CON points.
  • Bleeding Skills: I showed some magical skills in this image too because the bleeding skills are pretty much these six, so there was no need to make another divison. Only daggers and some tankers have the physical skills which are Bleed and Sting, and the success chance depends on the target’s bleed resistance plus the CON points. The success of the magical ones also depends on fire resistance, and in case of the Ice Dagger, water resistance. Only the physical bleedings can be cured by the Cure Bleeding or Bandage skills.
  • Physical Buff Skills: There are many physical buffs, and a few of them are unique buffs of one class, like Duelist Spirit, Frenzy and Angelic Icon. They don’t have a pattern duration, so while some of them lasts only 30 seconds, there are other with 2 minutes or even the normal buff time, like the dances and songs, which are physical buffs too.
  • Physical Debuffs and Negative Skills: These skills have a big variety of functions, while some of them are usefull to decrease some important status of your opponent, others can take away their target, provoke them to hit you or hold them to the ground. Arrest and Shackle besides being physical negative skills, are also considered hold skills.
  • Toggle Skills: These are optional skills, that you can activate and deactivate anytime if you meet the requirements, and because of that they are very usefull, but it’s very important to learn the right time to use it, because most of them consumes a lot of MP, and some even consumes HP too, so use it wisely. Their MP/HP consumption is constant while you have them activated, and if you take Curse of Doom, Shield Slam or Song of Silence you can only deactivate it, being able to activate it again only when the debuff goes away.

Magical Active Skills

  • Magical Damage Skills: These skills are the ones used by magicians to make damage, and their damage is calculated from your M. Atk. and your target’s M. Def. combined with the elemental resistance. The magical critical damage is always 4 times your normal damage, and there’s no way to increase it. Except by Steal Essence and Aura Flare, all magical damage skills are attributed to one of the six elements (earth, wind, fire, water, holy and dark magic). There are some buffs that can increase your resistance, but only the buffer and healer classes have it in olympiad.
  • Healing Skills: Probably the most important skills in olympiad, the healing skills are the most helpfull ones, but not all the classes have it, and some of them are very strong because of them. Some healing skills costs a lot of MP, which’s the key to win the healer in some cases, so I suggest you to study and try to understand all kinds of heals very well. Their healing power can be increased only with Prayer, Heal Empower augment, some epic jewels or skill enchantment.
  • Cleansing Skills: These skills are responsible for removing some debuffs and negative skills, but most of them are focused on removing hold, slow, poisons and bleedings, except by the Cleanse, which removes all kinds of debuffs and negative skills, but only the Cardinals have them.
  • Poisoning Skills: Poisons are very similar to bleedings, but all of them are magical active skills, except by the ones from Aqua and Viper Cubic, summons from the Elemental Master and Shillien’s Templar classes. Their success chance depends on your target’s poison resistance plus the MEN points.
  • Magical Buff Skills: There are many magical buffs, they increase a lot of different status, and their owner classes are very strong in olympiad, usually they are the strongest warriors because of these skills. Examples of buffers are the Hierophants, Eva’s Saints, Doomcryers and Dominators.
  • Magical Debuffs and Curse Skills: These are the nightmares of olympiad warriors, the magical debuffs and curses are very strong and can reduce a lot of different status, like your casting and attack speed, your skills reuse time, or even forbid you to use any skills at all, so many times you might lose a fight only because you got a debuff, and that’s really bad. The success chance of these skills depends on the target’s M. Def. plus the MEN points. 
  • Cancellation Skills: Not many classes have these skills, but they make a huge difference because it can remove your main buffs when they work. Wizard classes have them, so be carefull when you catch one. Touch of Death is also a cancellation skill, but it removes random buffs and the success chance is a little bit lower.
  • Hold and Slow Skills: The hold and slow skills are very important in olympiad because their success chance is usually high, especially when you’re playing without epic jewels, so you must be careful with them, because the slow ones reduces a lot of speed, causing you trouble to get close to your enemy if your range attack is low, and if a hold skill works on you there’s not much to do. The success chance of these skills depends on the target’s hold resistance plus the WIT points. 
  • Summoning Skills: These skills are responsible for openning portals to special creatures, and they become loyal to the conjuring master, helping them a lot with the fighting. They have some special skills themselves, like stuns, buffs, and even physical and magical damage skills.
  • Momentary Invincibility Skills: To play olympiad, you must know about these three skills, because they give the user 10 seconds of invincibility, which’s a lot of time in a olympiad fight. The Celestial Shield is a magical buff from the Cardinals, and it costs only MP to be used, while the other two consumes also charges. Sonic Barrier consumes 5 charges from a Duelist, and Force Barrier consumes 4 charges from a Grand Khavatari, and despite inicially only these three classes have this kind of skill, there is the Celestial Shield as an augment skill, allowing all the other classes to also have 10 seconds of invincibility.

As told in the beginning, these separations aren't explicit in the game, so it's not an easy task to talk about them in details, but it's a very good base for you to start playing the olympiad games, so be pacient, you will learn a lot more about this while you play, don't worry.
